Cool tutorial but some need instructions on doing the base drawing... Was it in grayscale and all on one layer? I am guessing you used reduced opacity but gradients and stuff I still haven't figured out yet. Gah!

Please keep posting your tutorials and WIPs. I always pick up something from them.

Very happy to hear you learn something from this little tutorials of mine. :)

For the base drawing, yeah... it was done in one layer and in grayscale but you can do it in 2 or even 5 layers but be sure to merge them before you go to the color adjustment tool. As for drawing/painting, i usually go for somewhere in between 40-70% opacity with a hard brush... even lower to 20% for clean blends. I have never used gradients. :)

Nice, that helps a lot :) And how do you use gradients?

I juz basically use a simple brush with 30-40% opacity. Gradients tend to happen by themselves by varying the number of times you brush over areas. :)

Happy New Year to you as well! :) i never use gradients... 95% of what i do is probably free hand... as if im holding a brush and basic pen. :) BTW, you use a mouse or wacom?

I just bought a board (though it's not wacom it's genius) and haven't finished anything yet, working on it right now. so far all I got in my gallery was torturely moused out. now i feel like a butterfly having passed a metamorphosis :)
to me as a pencil drawer most familiar is to do right what you say = use a semi-transparent brush
:)

thats cool! Although most people prefer wacom over any other brand, i dont think it matters as long as you're used to what you have.

If you have good internet speed (and if i havent mentioned this before), you might want to check out digitalarttutorials website. most of the videos they have are for sale but they got a couple of free tutorials that are REALLY good! each complete tutorial is from start to finish and more than 300-400mb i think.

Juz by myself. :) i had a few basic lessons back in early highschool on basic drawing, charcoal and watercolor (10 sessions each) but other than that, i juz love drawing and comic books so much. :)

I juz started using photoshop late 2007 though and what i know now is a mixture of online tutorials and discovering stuff as i go. :) You will be surprised what you can achieve by juz playing around with the tools. But juz try to see the tutorial on that site and believe me, you will learn a lot.. :) especially the one with the red hair

no worries! i was able to learn how to do everything i do on my own as well and in the process, discovered some stuff that's easy to learn. I have other easy to follow tutorials on my gallery (Tutorial folders). :)

But i really recommend a company that have helped me a lot. They sell their tutorials but they have free ones to download and very high quality tutorials too! My fave is the first one. [link]

Hope you like it. :)

another technique that uses the b&w base is instead of multiply, you can use the color layer which goes on top of the b&w. :) So juz do what seems to be best for you bro :)
